Dear Brenda,

I attended a presentation in April at the 2010 Vermont Travel Expo in Stowe by James Chung of Reach Advisors. The title was Four Macro Trends: Implications for the Travel Industry. While the focus was on the travel industry, I believe the four emerging trends could - and will - affect most, if not all, businesses in the future. If this is a glimpse of what's coming, I hope that it can give CV Chamber members an opportunity to get ahead of the curve. Take a look at the notes I took and the presentation, and see if you agree that we are already beginning to see signs of these trends.

Research shows that there is a shift that replaces luxury with total wellness as the new marker of wealth. Health and wellness spending is the one area where discretionary spending rose in 2009. Fitness-oriented health spending out preformed other discretionary health spending.

This was an exceptional presenter, and for those who have the budget for his services, I would recommend him! For those who can't stretch their budget to that extent, here's my recap.

Using a mash-up of Google maps, the selected member is pinpointed on the map, with their information displayed on a side panel.  The top menu bar allows the user to select categories to seek other amenities and members to do business with.

Web partner pages are being updated with the new mapping add-on and should be complete this month.

Granite Financial Players
2010Golf
Recent events hosted by the Central Vermont Chamber of Commerce provided bragging rights to Granite Financial Services, Chittenden Bank and Fothergill, Segale & Valley, but McCain Consulting walked away with the cash.
The top golfers in Cigna Healthcare's Chamber Challenge golf tournament can brag to their peers about their skillful play. Blind luck garnered the Chamber raffle's $4,000 top prize for the friends of McCain Consulting. Gunner McCain said being lucky was just "just fine" with him.
Skill awards went to Brent Sleeper, William Patno, Brad Rouleau and Richard Bashara who captured low net honors at the Barre Country Club Friday. Representing Granite Financial Services, they shot a 58, three stokes better than the Chittenden Bank foursome of Clark Leonard, Dave Nourse, Bob Bosburgh and Bill Burke. However, the bank's team took low net honors.  Read more...
