PROFILE

OVERVIEW OF CENTRAL VERMONT
- Its diverse industrial base, a long-standing tradition of manufacturing
excellence and craftsmanship, strong work ethic of our people, and
efficient transportation networks make Central Vermont a prime location
for business.
Central Vermonts population and urban resources are concentrated
in Barre, Montpelier, Waterbury, Berlin, Northfield and Waitsfield,
adjoining centers of industry, government and commerce.
MONTPELIER
- Montpelier, the state
capital, is home to National Life of Vermont, state government offices,
four colleges, several financial, insurance & real estate (F.I.R.E.)
companies, and professional services with a growing industrial base.
Montpelier is also the site of a newly constructed multi- purpose Civic
Center.
FACT: Montpeliers population doubles
during the day to approximately 20,000 people.

BARRE & BARRE TOWN
- Barre City and Barre Town, drawing on its strength of more than
a century of excellence in manufacturing and granite quarrying, is
the industrial center of the region. Industries include electronics,
mass transit manufacturing, and granite, while its downtown is comprised
of retail shops and professional services.
BERLIN
- Berlin, situated between
Barre and Montpelier, is a fast-growing retail center with several
shopping plazas and a mall. In addition, there is a mix of light manufacturing
and distribution companies, as well as Edward F. Knapp Airport, Central
Vermont Medical Center, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont, restaurants
and hotels.
WATERBURY
- Waterbury is at the
crossroads between world class resort and recreation areas in the Waitsfield/Warren
area and Stowe. This highly traveled area is home to the production
facility of Vermonts most highly recognized product, Ben & Jerrys
ice cream. Waterbury is also home to gourmet coffee gurus, Green Mountain
Coffee Roasters and Suss Microtech, a German-based manufacturer of
high-tech machinery, as well as State government offices. A short distance
from Burlington and Stowe, Waterbury also enjoys a newly constructed,
world-class golf course, Country Club of Vermont.
NORTHFIELD
- Northfield claims Norwich
University, the nations oldest private military school known
for its engineering and computer science programs. Norwichs presence
dominates Northfield with its campus, its new, state-of-the-art arena/convention
center and outdoor sports facilities. Northfield is also a growing
industrial area, particularly in wood products and textiles.
WAITSFIELD & WARREN
- The Waitfield/Warren Area, known as the "Mad
River Valley", is the site of two topnotch ski resorts, Sugarbush & and
Mad River Glen, as well as Controlled Energy Corporation, Northern
Power Systems, Small Dog Electronics and numerous specialty shops.
