With our programs, Vermonters read for pleasure, explore humanities
topics, and discuss and exchange ideas with others.
Humanities-based Literacy
Connections

At-risk
students, teen parents, adult new readers, and corrections residents
explore literature and the humanities. By opening books, they open
doors to lifelong learning.

~ Childcare
providers and parents learn techniques to stimulate interest in
books and stories in young children.

new initiative targets prospective kindergartners who are not ready
for school and helps their parents prepare them for kindergarten.

Weeklong
theme-based day camps for at-risk middle school students help
build positive peer groups, confidence, and a love of reading.

our support, Vermont communities develop and maintain intergenerational
literacy activities and events ó from authors-in-the-schools to
new-baby bags and book festivals.
Humanities Grants
~ VHC
grants fund humanities projects in museums and libraries, at film,
music and literary festivals, and at local historical societies
ó including the Vermont History Expo.

this hospital-based program, healthcare professionals read and discuss
literature, enriching their lives and the lives of patients.

nonprofit organization chooses from more than 60 theme-based series.
